Heaven could also be this place

How I long for a space with these Scandinavian interiors. So light, clean and airy.
And there are plenty more where these came from over at From Scandinavia with love

Sunday (on a Wednesday)

Yes please! I just had to order this curated art book called Sundays Are For Lovers featuring all things Sunday: eat, rest, love, laugh. I've always said that Sundays are my favourite day – as weird as that sounds. I just love the relaxed pace. I love drinking coffee and making a big breakfast. I love cleaning my sheets on Sunday for a fresh sleep that night. I love Sunday night family dinner. I love that the shops close early. I love, love Sunday.

Lets take some risks

Bid the long weekend adieu

Despite rain and constant grey clouds the weekend was pretty spectacular. Warning: there was plenty of food.

Friday night we found ourselves at a small local tapas bar called Tzin where we stayed late drinking fine wine and munching on tasty little treats. We had the meat and cheese platter, some mushroom crostini's, creamy chilli prawns, and ricotta spinach stuffed pasta. Yum!

Saturday afternoon we visited with an extremely knowledgeable chap and learned a little about the world of Bordeaux wine. I realized that when it comes to wine there is much to learn – luckily learning about wine means drinking wine. No complaints here. We happily started our lesson Saturday night.

Sunday evening we made a huge meal complete with wine homework. Later that night we played board games and visited with friends.

Monday the sun finally came out. The afternoon was spent outside visiting and eating hotdogs. And now we're putting up our feet and giving thanks for the fantastic fun-food filled weekend we had and looking forward to many more.

Yummy in the Mail

Last week when I got home from work there was a little package in the mail for me. I thought maybe it was the earrings I ordered from etsy (which still have not come), but no it was from Cuppitycakes Cupcakery. And what a pleasant surprise it was. There was double chocolate cookies, chocolate chip cookie bars and a marshmallow topped shortbread pie thing (though I'm certain those are not the proper names). We ate them ALL that night. So good!! Thanks Sarah for the most delightful surprise dessert yet.

In the photo I'm getting ready to dive into the marshmallow pie thing.

Sewing Class Update

I'm loving Monday night sewing class. We're a small group of 5 plus our lovely teacher Linda. So far I've learned:
- How to pick a pattern and find the proper fabric and notions needed
- Cut my size from the pattern
- Pin and cut the pattern in my desired fabric
- Constantly refer to the instructions to properly assemble the garment

Sounds easy huh...

I'm known as the renegade sewer of the group – always trying to stray from the instructions and try new things. Linda tells me to learn to do it right first and then I can break the rules. Fine.

Dreaming of...

...too bad it's very wet and cold here. Nothing like the sunny loveliness of my dream.

Changing things Up

Okay, so as per my new directive to change things up I've started deciding on the fly my route to work. I know, 'wow, a new route to work' but it's an easy way to feel like things are not always the same.

Do you have any tips to make life a little less 'the same'? Do share.

Bicycle Rush Hour

I love this video, it reminds me of our visit to Amsterdam. It was amazing in the morning to see everyone commuting to school, work, daycare on their bicycles. J and I rented bikes one afternoon and tried it out. It was so much fun and a superb way to get around the city. It helps that bike lanes are everywhere and traffic is aware and sharing the road with cyclist.

One challenge of biking in Amsterdam is bicycle parking!  It's surprisingly hard to find. I can remember on the afternoon we spent at the train station there was a crew cutting the locks on loads of illegally parked bikes. There were so many.

Saturday May 15... what to do?

Driving Range
It doesn't matter if you're no good. It's all just for run. Smash some balls (ha) at the Driving Range in the sunny afternoon.

Wander around a Greenhouse
Visit a local Greenhouse and pick up some seeds and plants for spring.

Hit up the Farmers Market
The Edmonton City Market (off Jasper) opens on Saturday. I've been waiting for this since fall when it closed.

Sit on a Patio with a Bubbly Beverage
Maybe the Empress Ale House. Or if you're/I'm feeling lazy we could sit on our home patios.

Bike Ride
Hit the open road and see where you end up. Or if you prefer (the old me would prefer, but now I'm spontaneous, haha) you can download Edmonton city bike maps here.

Watch Hannah Georgas
She's live in Etown Saturday night with Colleen Brown at the Brixx Bar and Grill (10030 - 102 Street).

Friday May 14... what to do?

Dance Party
Vegas or Bust, New City, 10081 Jasper Ave, Edmonton
A good old fashioned fundraiser event to send some local gals to Vegas for a Hall of Fame Weekend.
The night will include burlesque show, dance party, auction and prizes.

... or someone could relax and enjoy the sun (includes grilling dinner  -  portobello mushroom burgers and a long walk). Really whichever you prefer.

Thursday Afternoon Laughter

Self Reflection in the Morning

I think according to Mr. Benjamin Franklin I might be on the verge of insanity... I am the epitome of routine, especially during the week. New goal: change things up! Stay up late. Be spontaneous. Who's with me?

Oh man... drool worthy

Ming Makes Cupcakes is a great little site with yummy delights (recipes too!) Below are some of my favs.

All this cupcake talk is making me feel lucky to know a gal who's a legend around these parts. Her cupcakes are so creative and unique. Not to mention super tasty.

... exciting adventures to come. 'Relaxing Canoeing Trip' and 'Ridiculous in Las Vegas'.

Oh man, look at the look on that face – that's a sly grin if I ever did see one. Ha.

A perfect Sunday night...

Quality cat nip + Liars Sisterworld = perfect evening in the life of a cat.
Also entertaining as the cat owner.

Ready to sew...

...or at least get started cutting the pattern.

I chose a Built by You Pattern because I love Built by Wendy  and it looks pretty easy.  I'm going to make the top in the 'blueish striped cotton stretchy material' you see in the picture. I lucked out and found it on the sale shelf – 3 dollars a meter! The little gold-ish buttons are for the rolled up sleeves. I told the woman who helped cut the material that 'if I have any left over I will make a matching headband' – half joking. She replied in a very serious tone 'that's really 80's' as if she was worried for me. Ha.

Last Saturday

Last Saturday was lovely and sunny. J and I started the day with yummy homemade pancakes with real maple syrup.

After breakfast we roamed around Whyte Ave. When we were bored and mighty proud that we managed to not spend any money, aside from the market and a few coffees, we decided to head home for supper.

I made us some lettuce wraps – so yummy and fresh! It was also so easy.

Here's how:
Chop up some carrots, green onions, yellow pepper, cucumber and any other vegetables you like. Wash some butter leaf lettuce. Top the lettuce with chow mein noodles, veggies, some miso gravy, (we used the famous Naam miso gravy), cilantro and peanuts then roll and devour. Oh yes and we added some grilled spicy tofu but you could use chicken or just veggies and it would still be delightful.

Here's the tofu marinade for those who may be interested:  (T=Tablespoon, t=teaspoon)
- 350 pkg extra firm tofu (press it before you marinate)
- 2 T soy sauce
- 2 t ground ginger
- 2 t hot chili-garlic sauce
- 2 t freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 t chili powder
- 1 t brown sugar

        Put it in the bag

I found another something I would love to make.
A canvas bag. Something like these little lovelies from The Mariners Supply Company.

        I don't have...

... an ipad, iphone or ipod that requires a beautiful wallpaper, but if I did, you can bet I'd look at Poolga.
And I'd probably have a really hard time choosing one and change it all the time.
